Learn the basics in small groups of two.
This 4 week intensive course helps to develop your throwing techniques while giving you time to practice on the wheel.
Over the four weeks, we will teach you all the fundamental techniques of precise centering, equipping you with the skills needed to pull flawless cylinders. We will explore a variety of clay types and weights while teaching you how to effectively utilise tools such as ribs and kidneys to assist you. Depending on the size and shape of your creations, you will have the opportunity to take home a few pieces. Additionally, we will guide you in the art of decorating your pottery through techniques such as glazing and dipping. You will learn basic health & safety protocols before you start.
WHO IS IT FOR?
This course is ideal for beginners, anyone who has tried the odd throwing class before, or as a refresher for anyone coming back to clay after a break. This 4 week course is perfect for anyone that wants to explore their skills on the wheel!
WHAT’S INCLUDED?
8 hours of tuition
All materials including clays, glazes and community tools
Firing of a handful of pieces made during the course, within reasonable size and scale!
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
An apron or old T-shirt
Boiler suit would be best
Instagram saves, a Pinterest board, ideas about shapes you love.
WHO LEADS THE COURSE?
Fundamentals is taught by a number of studio teachers.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Week 1 - introduction to basics, experimenting with different sizes of clay, centering & throwing simple pieces
Week 2 - throwing larger pieces
Week 3 & 4 - trimming, finishing & glazing
